Remodeling a deck 303-255-5554 www.patioandhomeimprovementdesign.com We are in morrison Colorado remodeling a deck. We have removed all of the old redwood decking, handrail, and facia. We are using a roofing tape to cover the old joists. This will protect them from further weathering. With screw holes on the top of the joists, water will sit in the holes and eventually rot the wood. The weather tape will protect the joists for a long time. We will also seal the joists to water proof and protect from rotting. Next step is to finish adding the new rim board and installing the hangers. We will finish this deck remodel by installing new Trex composite decking and facia.
1 – Composite Deck Building – Substructure
How to build the structure of a composite deck. It uses regular pressure treated wood as composite is not a structural material. You must conform to local building codes but a 12″ joist spacing is necessary to support the composite decking. Putting a little extra into the structure would be a wise decision. The metal hangers hold the joists to the rim and ledger so they don’t move over time. We will be remodeling this deck and adding hangers to the joists. We will also be replacing the redwood decking with composite decking.
